Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) Coverage

To assist motorists in making important travel decisions, the Thruway Authority Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) system provides travelers with timely and accurate information about incidents, construction, weather and traffic conditions along the Thruway and adjacent highway systems.

When the lights on roadside HAR signs are flashing , emergency traffic information is being broadcast.

New York City Region/Tappan Zee Bridge Corridor: 530 AM I-87 near Exit 16 (Harriman); from the Ramapo Travel Plaza across the Tappan Zee Bridge to Exit 6 (Yonkers-Bronxville-Tuckahoe Road); I-287 from the Tappan Zee Bridge to I-95; and I-95 from the Connecticut State Line to Exit NE-8 (approximately 54 miles along I-87, I-287, and I-95)
Newburgh: 1610 AM Exit 17 (Newburgh); about 6 miles on I-84 and 7 miles on I-87
Kingston: 1610 AM Exit 19 (Kingston), approximately 7 miles on I-87
Albany Region: 1610 AM I-87 from Exit 21A through Exit 25; Exit B1 (approximately 25 miles of I-90 / I-87) and the Adirondack Northway to Exit 4; 7 miles on I-90 (Berkshire connector); and portions of I-890 West, near Schenectady
Utica Region: 540 AM Exit 31 (Utica), approximately 6 miles on I-90
LaFayette Region: 1620 AM (along I-81) I-81 Exit 15 (Lafayette), approximately 8 miles on I-81 in all directions
Syracuse Region: 1620 AM I-90 from Exit 34A through Exit 39 (approximately 20 miles)
North on I-81 to the intersection of I-81 and Rt 31;
South on I-81 to approximately 3 miles south of I-90 into downtown Syracuse
West on Rt 690 to intersection of Rt 690 and Van Buren Rd
Geneva/Waterloo Region: 1620 AM I-90 from Exit 41 (Waterloo) through Exit 42 (Geneva) approximately 13 miles
Rochester Region: 1610 AM Exit 45 (Victor), approximately 6 miles on I-90 (reduced coverage due to hills);
I-490 approximately 4 miles to Bushnell's Basin, Exit 27

Exit 46 (Henrietta), approximately 6 miles on I-90;
I-390 NB approximately 5 miles from Exit 15 and 16 E & W Henrietta Roads;
I-390 SB to Exit 11 Rush

Exit 47 (Leroy), approximately 6 miles on I-90;
