About the Study

Site Map of Albany Corridor StudyThe Authority conducted a Corridor Study between Interchanges 21A and 25A (I-87 south of Interchange 24 and I-90 west of Interchange 24, see map) in Albany and Schenectady Counties. The project incorporated engineering studies, environmental studies, and an extensive public outreach program.

This study determined structural, safety, operational and capacity needs for this portion of the Thruway over a 20-year period of time. Areas and needs that were evaluated include:

  • Mainline Capacity
  • Congestion at Interchange 24
  • Congestion at Toll Plazas
  • Capacity at Interchange 25
  • Structural condition of Thruway pavements and bridges

The study identified improvements needed to meet increasing traffic demands and projects that could be developed independently.
