Welcome to the New York State Thruway Authority's Buffalo Corridor Study Website.
The New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) and the New York State Department
of Transportation (NYSDOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration,
have initiated a Corridor Study on the New York State Thruway near Buffalo
in Erie County. The Corridor Study is being conducted on I-90 between Interchanges
49 (Transit Road) and 53 (I-190) and on the Youngmann Memorial Highway
(I-290) between (I-90) and Interchange 7 (Main Street). The purpose of
this study is to develop a plan to address capacity, structural, safety,
and operational needs for this section of the Interstate Highway System
over the next 30 years.
In October 2006, the Authority's Board approved an action related to the elimination of the toll barriers at black Rock and city Line in Buffalo. With those changes to the Thruway's toll structure in the Buffalo area, regional traffic patterns were altered, thereby affecting the magnitude of the transportation issues in the Corridor that were being identified by the Study, and impact potential solutions to those issues. Therefore, the Thruway Authority postponed work on the Buffalo Corridor Study. The Authority anticipates the study will resume in the beginning of 2010.
