THRUWAY AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES PHASE TWO OF I-84/I-87 INTERCHANGE 17 RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that based on a bid of $48,214,229.73 the second phase of the I-84/I87 Interchange 17 Reconstruction Project has been awarded to The Pike Company, from Rochester, New York.
The contract will provide for the relocation and construction of support facilities within the interchange. These improvements will include: consolidated maintenance facilities; State Police building; relocation of the toll utility building and portions of the toll plaza.
Environmentally friendly technology is being incorporated into the design of the buildings to enhance energy efficiency. The contract will also provide for relocation of portions of parking lots and internal roadways.
The contract was originally let on November 24, 2004. The low bidder was found to be non-responsible. Moving forward with this important project is vital in order to provide seamless transportation to the region. Therefore, the Authority acted quickly to award the contract to the second lowest responsible bidder in order to make optimal use of this year's construction season.
Work is currently scheduled to commence in March of 2006. This Phase of the project is expected to be completed by spring 2009.
The contract for Phase three of this project is currently under design and is expected to be bid later this year. Phase three plans to provide for: construction of all remaining roadways, ramps and bridges in the interchange.
The Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding as this essential reconstruction project continues.
