NYS THRUWAY AUTHORITY
HOLDS INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC MEETING
Public Meeting Scheduled to Discuss Reconstruction of
I-84/I-87 Interchange
The New York State Thruway Authority today
announced that an informal Public Meeting/Open House will
be held on Thursday, October 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. to discuss
the proposed reconstruction of existing Exit 17, Newburgh
(I-84/I-87).
The informal meeting will be held at the Ramada
Inn located at 1289 Route 300, Newburgh, to provide a place
where the public may easily discuss the planned project
with representatives from the Thruway
Authority.
"The Thruway Authority supports active public
participation to assure that all information is available,"
said Thruway Authority Executive Director John
Platt.
Preliminary drawings and other project
information will be available for review and comment,
including the project Design Report (Environmental
Assessment), which has been prepared to assess the proposed
project’s effect on the environment in
accordance with the provisions of the State Environmental
Quality Review Act (SEQRA).
A single design alternative for the project has
been developed by the Authority in cooperation with the NYS
Department of Transportation and in coordination with
Federal, State and local agencies. The alternative under
consideration would involve the complete reconstruction of
the existing I-84/I-87 Interchange to provide more
efficient connections for interstate to interstate
movements, while continuing to provide local access to
Route 300.
All interested parties will be given the
opportunity to express their views and make comments on the
project. No formal presentation will be given. Written
comments are encouraged either at the Open House or mailed
to: Mr. Christopher A. Waite, P.E., Director, Office of
Design, c/o NYS Thruway Authority, 200 Southern Blvd.,
Albany, NY 12209. Written comments need to be received by
October 21, 2001.
The Ramada Inn is accessible to people with
disabilities; the Authority will provide interpretive aids
or services if they are requested prior to the Open House.
Please call the Department of Public Affairs to make these
arrangements.
