Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Installations

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is a national program aimed at using state-of-the-art computers and communications equipment to make travel more efficient, safer and convenient for motorists, transit riders, commercial vehicle operators and public safety providers. Through the use of technologies such as roadside and/or overhead Variable Message Signs (VMS), Closed Circuit TV (CCTV), Highway Advisory Radio transmitters (HAR), traffic counter loops and Transcom's System for Managing Incidents and Traffic (TRANSMIT) flow monitors, real-time traffic information is collected and conveyed to the traveling public. This current, multi-modal information then allows motorists to make smarter choices about how, when and where to travel.
