Thruway Authority Announces Fuel Service Renovations to Begin at Several Travel Plazas
Restaurants and Restrooms Remain Available At Travel Plazas
The New York State Thruway Authority has announced that as part of a major fuel service renovation project that will occur at all travel plazas operated by Sunoco, Inc. (R&M) the following travel plazas are scheduled to begin renovations on Monday, September 22, 2008: Plattekill Travel Plaza, located on I-87 northbound between Interchanges17 (Newburgh I-84) and 18 (New Paltz), at milepost 65; Modena Travel Plaza, located on I-87 southbound between Interchanges 18 (New Paltz) and 17 (Newburgh I-84), at milepost 66; and Ontario Travel Plaza, located on I-90 westbound, between Interchanges 46 (Rochester) and 47 (Leroy), at milepost 376. These renovation projects are expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.
Fuel renovation projects have already been completed at Sloatsburg, Ulster, and Clifton Springs travel plazas. Information regarding the start dates for the remaining travel plazas operated by Sunoco, Inc (R&M) will be made available as soon as the dates have been finalized.
Sunoco, Inc. (R&M)’s development plan for the fuel renovations at all travel plazas is phased over a two year period and is scheduled to be completed during 2009. The renovation projects include, but are not limited to, new convenience stores, new fueling islands, canopy renovations and environmental upgrades.
Prior to the Plattekill, Modena and Ontario travel plazas, signs will be posted along the Thruway alerting motorists to plazas where fuel is available so they can stop for fuel before reaching the plazas undergoing renovations.
During these renovation projects, restroom and food services will continue to be available to motorists 24 hours a day at the travel plazas.
The fuel service renovation project start dates for Plattekill, Modena and Ontario travel plazas are outlined below:
September 22, 2008
- Plattekill Travel Plaza: Northbound motorists in need of fuel services are advised that the next available travel plaza is the Malden Travel Plaza, located approximately 38 miles north of the Plattekill Travel Plaza, between Interchanges 20 (Saugerties) and 21 (Catskill), at milepost 103.
- Modena Travel Plaza: Southbound motorists in need of fuel services are advised that the next available travel plaza is the Ramapo Travel Plaza, located approximately 33 miles south of the Modena Travel Plaza, between Interchanges 16 (Woodbury Toll Barrier) and15A (Suffern Rt. 17N), at milepost 33.
- Ontario Travel Plaza: Westbound motorists in need of fuel services are advised that the next available travel plaza is the Clarence Travel Plaza, located approximately 36 miles west of the Ontario Travel Plaza, between Interchanges 48A (Pembroke) and 49 (Depew), at milepost 412
Again, during these renovation projects, restroom and food services will be available to motorists 24 hours a day at the Plattekill, Modena, and Ontario travel plazas.
