The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that steel work being conducted as part of the Interchange 17 Reconstruction Project will necessitate ramp and lane closures with periodic traffic stoppages on I-84 beginning on Monday, April 28, 2008, weather permitting.

The I-84 Ramp 7S (I-84 eastbound to NYS Route 300 south) closures will be in place near Interchange 17 (Newburgh, I-84, Route 17K, Stewart Airport) in the eastbound direction, weather permitting. During the temporary closures, traffic will be detoured to Exit 7N.

The ramp closures scheduled to begin on Monday, April 28 are outlined below:

  • 8:00 p.m. Tuesday April 29 until 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 30

In addition to the ramp closures, the left lane in both directions on I-84 in this area will be closed overnight from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Monday, April 28 through Thursday, May 1.
Periodic traffic stoppages will also occur during the overnight lane closures.  The stoppages are expected to last no more than 10 minutes each, and are outlined below:

  • 9:00 p.m. Monday April 28 until 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29
  • 9:00 p.m. Tuesday April 29 until 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 30
  • 9:00 p.m. Wednesday April 30 until 5:00 a.m. Thursday, May 1
  • 9:00 p.m. Thursday May 1 until 5:00 a.m. Friday May 2

The Authority has activated Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) in advance of the closures to advise motorists of the closures and traffic stoppages. Motorists are urged to tune to Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) 1610 AM for updates.

The work is being completed by A. Servidone/B. Anthony Construction Corporation of Castleton, New York and is scheduled to be completed by November 2009.
