Thruway Authority Announces Brief Traffic Stoppages near Interchange 36 (Watertown, Binghamton, Route 81) and Interchange 40 (Weedsport, Auburn)

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that utility work west of Weedsport and a bridge replacement project in Liverpool will require separate traffic stoppages Tuesday, April 15, 2008, weather permitting.

Traffic will be stopped at 10 a.m. in both directions approximately three miles west of Interchange 40 (Weedsport) and will last up to 10 minutes while an overhead utility project is completed, weather permitting

Several stoppages will also occur between 7 p.m. and midnight just west of Interchange 36 (Watertown, Binghamton, Route 81) while steel is removed from the Buckley Road Bridge. Stoppages will take place in one direction at a time and could last up to 10 minutes each.

In addition, the passing lane in both directions just west of Interchange 36 (Watertown, Binghamton, Route 81) will be closed from 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, to facilitate this work.

Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) will be in place to alert motorists of the work and any delays associated with it.

Motorists are encouraged to remain alert and aware of their surroundings while traveling through both areas.

The Authority appreciates motorists' patience during these necessary projects.
