Thruway Authority Announces Fuel Service Renovations to Begin at Two Travel Plazas
Restaurants and Restrooms Remain Available At Travel Plazas

The New York State Thruway Authority has announced that as part of a major  fuel service renovation project that will occur at all travel plazas operated by Sunoco, Inc. (R&M) the following travel plazas are scheduled to begin renovations on Monday, March 24, 2008 and Monday, March 31, 2008 respectively: Ulster Travel Plaza, located on I-87 southbound between Interchanges 20 (Saugerties) and 19 (Kingston), at milepost 96; and Pembroke Travel Plaza, located on I-90 eastbound between Interchanges 48A (Pembroke) and 48 (Batavia), at milepost 397. The renovation projects scheduled at Ulster and Pembroke travel plazas, in addition to the projects already underway at Clifton Springs and Sloatsburg travel plazas, are expected to be completed by Memorial Day.

Fuel renovations at Clarence, Junius Ponds, Chittenango, Oneida and Plattekill travel plazas are scheduled to begin after Labor Day and are expected to be completed by Thanksgiving. Information regarding the start dates at the other travel plazas will be made available as soon as the dates have been finalized. Additionally, no fuel renovation projects are scheduled during the peak summer travel season between the Memorial Day and Labor Day holidays.

Sunoco, Inc. (R&M)’s development plan for the fuel renovations at all travel plazas is phased over a two year period and is scheduled to be completed during 2009.  The renovation projects include, but are not limited to, tank replacements at two sites, several new convenience stores, new fueling islands, canopy renovations and environmental upgrades.

Prior to the Ulster and Pembroke travel plazas, several signs will be posted along the Thruway alerting motorists to plazas where fuel is available so they can stop for fuel before reaching the plazas undergoing renovations.

During these renovation projects, restroom and food services will continue to be available to motorists 24 hours a day at the Ulster and Pembroke travel plazas.

The fuel service renovation projects scheduled to begin on March 24, 2008 and March 31, 2008 are outlined below:

March 24, 2008

  • Ulster Travel Plaza: Southbound motorists in need of fuel services are advised that the next available travel plaza is the Modena Travel Plaza, located approximately 30 miles south of the Ulster Travel Plaza, between Interchanges 18 (New Paltz) and 17 (Newburgh I-84), at milepost 66.

March 31, 2008

  • Pembroke Travel Plaza: Eastbound motorists in need of fuel services are advised that the next available travel plaza is the Scottsville Travel Plaza, located approximately 31 miles east of the Pembroke Travel Plaza,  between Interchanges 47 (Leroy) and 46 (Rochester), at milepost 366.

Again, during these renovation projects, restroom and food services will be available to motorists 24 hours a day at the Ulster and Pembroke travel plazas. However, for a complete list of services normally offered to motorists at the Authority’s 27 Travel Plazas along the System, please visit the following link: http://www.nysthruway.gov/travelplazas/index.html.
