At approximately 6:10 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006, the Authority announced that a 100-mile section of the Thruway mainline from Interchange 46 (Rochester, Corning) to Interchange 59 (Dunkirk) was closed eastbound/westbound due to heavy lake effect snow conditions.

The entire New York State Thruway was reopened at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 13.
